Microfiction Nominations for 2025

At this busy time of year, reading microfictions is a great way to get some 'literary nourishment' in short spurts.

A microfiction is defined as a short piece of fictional writing, usually no longer than 300 words. It is a subset of the flash fiction genre, where pieces can stretch up to 1,000 words. The key of a great microfiction is that it contains all the elements of great story-telling. In a tiny story, it manages to have the ingredients of character, plot, conflict and it keeps the reader hooked.

WestWord is one of my favourite places online to engage in the genre and recently Amanda Saint, who runs the site, has nominated her three microfictions to be included in the prestigious Best Micro Fiction Anthology in 2025.

Best of luck to all of them, but in particular to my friend Debbi Voisey who celebrated a significant, 'roundy' birthday recently. What a lovely birthday present it would be to have her story included!
